29th Festival 2019

euro-scene Leipzig

29th Festival of contemporary European theatre and dance

05. Nov. – 10. Nov. 2019

(»Parallel worlds«)

Theatre and dance from the old and new Europe

With the patronage of Leipzig’s Mayor, Burkhard Jung

euro-scene Leipzig will take place for the 29th time from 05. – 10. November 2019. The festival of contemporary European theatre and dance will show approximately 12 guest performances from 10 countries in about 20 shows at 7 venues; among them will be numerous German premières. The patronage will be assumed by Burkhard Jung, mayor of the City of Leipzig.

This year’s motto is »Parallelwelten« (»Parallel worlds«). The festival is devoted to levels that lie parallel to one another or are interlocked: for example, the real and fictitious, social and individual as well as conscious and unconscious levels. The spectrum includes spoken and dance theatre, performances and a piece for children. A fringe program will accompany the guest performances.

The competition »Das beste deutsche Tanzsolo« (»Best German dance solo«) will be organized within the festival for the 14th time. The concept of the competition was developed by Alain Platel, Ghent. Registration begins in May 2019.

The festival is financed by the City of Leipzig and the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony; other sponsors and foreign embassies support the guest performances. The cultural partners are MDR Kultur and ARTE. The organizer is the Sächsische Verein zur Förderung des kulturellen Austauschs nationaler und internationaler Tanz- und Theatergruppen e. V. (Saxon Association for the promotion of cultural exchange between national and international dance and theatre groups).

The festival program will be published in early July 2019.
Ticket sales will start on 28.09.2019.
