A fellowship of dance and music – this is often claimed and only seldom realized. Usually the two genres stand next to one another more than they appear equal. The dance concert »Duo con piano – Tanzstück für zwei Pianisten« (»Duo con piano – dance piece for two pianists«) by Gianfranco Celestino and Annalisa Derossi is a refreshing exception. Rarely has one ever seen dancers who play such good piano, and pianists who dance so well.

A man and woman start an expressive dialogue, dance in front, next to and on the grand piano and play it while they dance. In an abstract way, they speak of intimate artistic and human togetherness – harmony as a place of longing seems to become a reality for a few moments.

Gianfranco Celestino, born in Torino in 1971, completed his piano studies at the Conservatorio statale di Musica Giuseppe Verdi in his home city. He studied dance at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen and in Venice and Vienna. From 2000-2002, he danced with Alain Platel’s company les ballets C de la B in Ghent among others. Since 2002, he has been creating his own choreographies in Luxembourg. Annalisa Derossi, also born in Torino but in 1967, studied piano and dance in Torino and Paris and has been living in Germany since 1991. Guest engagements at theatres, for example at the Volksbühne Berlin and Burgtheater Wien, alternate with independent productions and concert performances. The artists have been realizing projects together since 2013.
