13th Festival 2003

Conception

»Die Liebe = Chance der Unmöglichkeit«

(»Love = Chance of Impossibility«)

04 – 09 November 2003
(Prologue: 01 – 03 November 2003)

(Preface to the printed programme – including conception of the festival)

For the 13th time we are bringing modern theatre and contemporary dance from Europe to Leipzig. Spurred on the current bid of our city to host the 2012 Olympic Games, it is an even greater pleasure for us to invite the world to Leipzig and, at the same time, to make the city better known throughout the world.

We welcome to Leipzig about 150 artists to twelve guest performances, including eight performances that receive their German premiere, and four Leipzig productions as well as the German Centre of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), Berlin, to its annual conference and public events within our supporting programme.

This time the theme of our festival is love. In which other contexts beyond sex, estrangement and violence can love be found in the European theatre these days? Cliché, utopia and power, theatrical exaggeration in politics and the media, and last but not least the everlasting longing for the love of people and of humanity – these are all stops on our festival journey to which I would like to invite you.
