People at the edge of society seek protection, the subconscious comes to light. The celebrated Belgian choreographer Alain Platel shows a broad spectrum of humanity between passion, stillness and humour with nine fantastic dancers.

This solo of radical performer Ivo Dimchev moves between intimacy and voyeurism. With his strong physical presence he creates an overwhelming mixture of genres between privacy and public, full of self-irony, wit and charm.

Co-production with Hellerau – European centre for the arts Dresden, and Thalia Theater Halle

Are humans still able to show instinctive behaviour today? The Leipzig director Philipp J. Neumann devotes in an interdisciplinary approach to the equal treatment of other living creatures on the planet. Steffi Sembdner created the choreography, Hagen Tilp the moved objects. The piece won the project advertisement on the occasion of its anniversary.

The limited and ugly maid Sonja is transformed by love. Alvis Hermanis, Latvia's best-known director of the younger generation, staged this theatre play by the Russian author Tatjana Tolstaja with much poetry.

A fire in the ThyssenKrupp plant in Turin in 2007 formed the starting point for this opulent play by Pippo Delbono. In a mixture of spoken and dance theatre, political cabaret and burlesque, he subjects his home country Italy relentless social criticism and is still full of human kindness.

A man and a woman meet in a train. An absurdist drama of a married couple develops from the shy conversation. Bekim Lumi staged the slapstick comedy between melodrama and musical, based on a text by Eugène Ionesco.

The competition in the conception by Alain Platel, Ghent, has already found tremendous success on nine occasions from 1997-2009. Based on seven dancers/choreographers their development since their appearance at that time will be shown.

Princess Sávitrí wants to marry no one else but Prince Satiaván against all odds. Pavla Dombrovská created this enchanting shadow theatre based upon an Indian legend with one of the leading children's and puppet theatres in the Czech Republic.

Dinner seems to be over; a man portrays five powerbrokers from our life and times. The renowned Dutch director Johan Simons created this brilliant-dialectic study with the wonderful actor Jeroen Willems based on texts by Pier Paolo Pasolini and Cor Herkströter, the former CEO of Shell.

Two women and two men dance abstractly in constantly changing new formations and structures of highest quality. Angelin Preljocaj choreographed this dance play following a reading by John Cage in 1977 which caused tumultuous reactions in Milan. An homage to the dance.
