1. Conception of the festival

The euro-scene Leipzig will take place from 04 to 09 November 2008 for the 18th time. Under the motto »Taumelnd auf glatter See« (»Floundering on a calm sea«), the festival of contemporary European theatre is dedicated to the opposite of a smooth surface and to the disasters concealed beneath – whether in the psychological or the social domain. All in all 12 guest plays from 8 countries can be seen in 22 performances and 9 venues.

For the first time, the euro-scene Leipzig is presenting an artist in a work show: Josef Nadj, one of Europe’s most significant choreographers, will show three productions, two films and an exhibition. Tilmann Broszat, artistic director of the theatre festival SPIELART, Munich, assumed the carte blanche 2008 and chose »The real fiction« by Cuqui Jerez, Madrid.

We would like to invite cordially you to the festival. Upon request the printed festival programme can be posted at no charge.

5. International Activities

La Biennale de la Danse, the largest dance festival in France, took place from 06 to 30 September 2008 in Lyon. Ann-Elisabeth Wolff attended the 3-day marathon of events and discussions »Focus danse« for professional presenters, which the CULTURESFRANCE, Paris, and the Bureau du théâtre et de la danse, Berlin, had invited to. All in all nine performances by French choreographers were shown. Among the highlights were the debut performance of »Blanche Neige« (»Snow White«) by Angelin Preljocaj, Aix-en-Provence, based on music by Gustav Mahler. Numerous panel discussions informed about the state of dance and choreography in France.
