DEUTSCH                               Der Schauplatz erinnert an einen hippen und gleichzeitig sterilen Club. Menschen der Randgruppen sind gesellschaftlichen Anpassungen und Zwängen ausgesetzt. Jede der Figuren wäre gern eine andere. Alle fühlen sich als Opfer. Sie fügen Leid zu, weil ihnen Leid zugefügt wird.

»White Star« basiert auf der sonderbaren Lebensgeschichte von Lothar Berfelde (1928-2002), der in Berlin/Mahlsdorf geboren wurde und als Jugendlicher die Entscheidung fällte, als Frau unter dem Namen Charlotte von Mahlsdorf leben zu wollen. Das Stück ist keine dramatisierte Biografie, sondern erzählt von Menschen, die behindert, entstellt oder ganz einfach von der »Norm« abweichen und darum kämpfen, akzeptiert zu werden.

Das Stück fußt auf einer Idee der transsexuellen Autorin und Schauspielerin Vanessa Van Durme und wurde von Lies Pauwels, geboren 1968 in Gent, auf die Bühne gebracht. »White Star« ist nach »Club Astrid«, 2002 bei der euro-scene Leipzig gezeigt, ihre zweite Arbeit als Regisseurin. Sie spielte, wie auch Van Durme, in der Victoria-Produktion »Allemaal Indiaan« (»Jedermann ist ein Indianer«) mit. »White Star« erhielt im Mai 2005 den großen Jurypreis des Festivals »KONTAKT« in Torun/Polen.

Die Compagnie Victoria, 1992 in Gent gegründet, ist eine Produktionsstätte für experimentelles Theater und versammelte im Lauf der Jahre sehr bedeutende Theatermacher um sich. Dazu gehörten neben Jérôme Bel vor allem auch Arne Sierens und Alain Platel, deren Stücke »Bernadetje« (1997) und, in Zusammenarbeit mit Les Ballets C. de la B., »Allemaal Indiaan« (2000) bei der euro-scene Leipzig zu sehen waren.

English                               The scene is reminiscent of a hip and simultaneously sterile club. People in the fringe groups are subjected to social adaptations and pressures. Each of the figures would rather be another. All feel like victims. They inflict pain because pain is inflicted on them.

»White Star« is based on the curious life history of Lothar Berfelde (1928-2002), who was born in Berlin/Mahlsdorf and who, as a young man, decided he wanted to live as a woman under the name of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. The piece is not a dramatised biography, but rather a narrative of people who are disabled, disfigured, or simply different from the »norm« and who fight to become accepted.
